The Bluff's Gamble sets out on its maiden voyage through the towering cliffs and tangled waterways of the Briarthorn Bluffs. By nightfall, its financier is dead. The question isn't whether someone on board did it — it's who, and whether they'll do it again before the steamboat reaches port.

The Briarflow Passage is a 35-page D&D 5e adventure module set in the Briarthorn Bluffs of Eldervast — a murder mystery aboard a dwarven-engineered luxury steamboat that quickly evolves into something older and more dangerous than any of the passengers expected. What begins as a scenic voyage through cliffside wonders becomes a race to understand an ancient supernatural force that has waited a long time for the right people to sail into its domain.

Adventure Overview

Act 1 — Boarding The Bluff's Gamble: The adventurers board a spectacular steamboat for what promises to be a luxurious journey through the Briarthorn Bluffs. They meet a cast of passengers each carrying their own motivations and secrets, explore lavishly themed staterooms, and begin to sense that something aboard is deeply wrong before the first night ends.

Act 2 — Death on the Water: The ship's financier is found dead. Suspects abound. Random encounters on the waterway — dense fogs, engine sputters, ghostly laughter drifting across the water, swarms of sentient moss-covered stonefish — ratchet up tension as the investigation unfolds among a crew and passenger list where every alibi deserves scrutiny.

Act 3 — The Lighthouse and the Sea Giants: The Bluff's Gamble moors near the crumbling Cliffwatch Lighthouse. The party discovers that the murder is only a thread in a much older mystery — one that requires negotiating with the Sea Giant Kaarnak, defeating a Cliff Leviathan, and ultimately performing the Rite of Thorns to bind a supernatural force that has haunted these cliffs for generations.
